For the past few weeks DC comics have been teasing their major upcoming event called Flashpoint, centering around comic book hero The Flash, heres what we know so far.
Flashpoint will be a huge event in the DC universe and the main story for DC’s Flashpoint will be a five issue comic series by writer Geoff Johns and artist Andy Kubert, however the story is so big that it will span 15 different miniseries and a number of different one shots, see a full list of titles at the end of this post.
DC then released a series of 5 statements and accompanying logo’s that looked towards answering the question of “What Happened To the World’s Greatest Heroes?”. This not only hinted at a possible alternate universe or even an alternate future storyline but led to hints at some on the main players in the story. With Batman’s symbol under the words “He Spends his Days running Wayne Casinos”, then two logos for Wonder Woman and Aquaman with the tagline “Their marriage was arranged to prevent war” and finally a logo for the Flash with the words “Where is his ring?”
Next DC released the cover for Flashpoint #1 which shows the flash running at speed as his costume starts to fray and disintegrate from his hand while 4 figures tower in the background above him, who appear to be alternte versions or at least very changed images of Cyborg, Batman, Aquaman and (from what sources tell me) WonderWoman. What stands out here apart from the alternate costumes of each character is the most central and focused character out of the looming figures is that of Cyborg, hinting at a very much increased profile and plot involvement for a usually more sidelined and team based hero.
Next up DC continued its teases of Flashpoint with five more logos/ icons and taglines with what appears to be images that represent five alternate reality versions of some of DC’s biggest names. The icons tag lines were as follows
“When did Cyborg become our protector or Truth, Justice and the American Way?”
“Why is Citizen Cold the greatest hero of Central City?”
“Who is the Outisider and why is he better than you?”
“What is top Secret?”
