Sony Pictures have released the first picture of Andrew Garfield as Spider-man in his full costume (including mask) for what has now been officially named (cue deep echoing voice) The Amazing Spider-man.
You may remember last month we brought you the first shot of Andrew Garfield as Spider-man, walking down the street looking slightly battered and without his mask, well now Sony Pictures have released the first image of the new Spider-man (avec mask) looking extremely cool and slick and what’s more he comes complete with mechanical web shooters, fixing a major fault of the last series of films, especially with fanboys. It doesn’t stop there Sony have also officially announced that this reboot will be called ‘The Amazing Spider-man’, taking its name from the original Spider-man comic book of the 1960’s.
As you may have guessed from the countless fan phone pics and videos of Andrew Garfield swinging/ running through the streets, shooting for The Amazing Spider-man is currently under-way and is due for release in July 2012. The Amazing Spider-man is being directed by Marc Webb and stars Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Martin Sheen as Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard/ Curt Connors and of course Andrew Garfield as Spiderman/ Peter Parker. Enjoy the latest image and keep an eye out for more updates soon.
I am gobsmacked! Are we just supposed to forget all about Spiderman 1,2 and 3?
I guess it worked for Batman Begins and The Dark Night, so why not? Nevertheless, the fact that my boyhood obsessions ( which is virtually the whole Marvel Universe) continues to play out on the Big Screen is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
